Lupita Nyong’o where can one start after everything that she
has done: the impact and lessons that she has instilled to self-doubters cannot
be traded for anything else, Her Oscar win meant many things for herself and
the rest of the black community. Her worldwide success not only made her what
she is today but has inspired many of us already. Lupita Nyong’o’s story is one of an elegance
carefully cultivated. Her story is not of “finally making it big in Hollywood” it’s
not of poverty nor of hardship that led her to be what she is today. Her story
is of a privilege, her story is of justice. Lupita since her win at the Oscars,
she has become the symbol of every black woman and man. Her skin so richly
brown and deep seems to welcome the seeding of our hopes and dreams, it is
politicized and romanticized because such things are inevitable in any country
where skin color can only ignite or exempt citizens of resentment or responsibility.
We can go on and on about the color of our skin, We
shouldn’t let our skin be an excuse for not achieving the goals and dreams we
aiming for, Her speech at the OSCARS moved me especially the last bit where she
profoundly declared that “No matter where you come from, your dreams are valid”
Lupita Nyongo’s success can only help shine a light on a group of people who
have been mistreated because of the color of their skin her success also grants
us to be the best of ourselves we can ever be whether you black, brown white or
(blue) anything is possible. Her many a
lot ad campaigns with renowned fashion houses, glossy magazine covers and red
carpet event sightings just proves to you, how much potential and power you
have to unlock all dreams that you desire. As cheesy as it may sound in the
context of my writing, there’s a big lesson her. Let us not miss it.
